How to Book Audio Projects by Delivery Date
An artist asks whether you can deliver a mix on Friday. An empty calendar slot at 5 p.m. does not tell you whether you have three days available to do the work. A delivery date needs capacity behind it.
For a solo engineer selling repeatable packages, start with a small capacity ledger. You can test the process in a spreadsheet before changing your booking tools.
Define packages in units you can reserve
Choose a unit that fits your smallest ordinary job. In this example, one unit is a quarter of a working day. An easy edit uses one unit, a two-day project uses eight, and a three-day mix uses twelve. These are examples; use completed jobs to estimate your own packages.
| Package | Example capacity | Scope check |
|---|---|---|
| Quick edit | 1 unit | Length and edit instructions |
| Medium project | 8 units | Track count and deliverables |
| Complex mix | 12 units | Source readiness and revisions |
Do not treat every nominal workday as four available units. Enter days off, existing commitments, and time you deliberately keep free before offering dates to clients.
Work backward from the deadline
For a three-day package delivered Friday, reserve Wednesday through Friday if those days are free. If Thursday is unavailable, decide whether the job can span nonconsecutive days. If it cannot, Friday is not an available delivery date.
Quarter-day jobs can share a day only while their combined requirement stays within capacity. A pending request should have a clearly defined hold period so it does not block your week indefinitely.
Confirm scope before confirming the date
Ask for the file-ready date, requested deliverables, source links, and reference notes. If files arrive late or scope changes, reassess the deadline with the client. Include a revision allowance rather than assuming every first version will be final.
Test against last month
Replay five completed jobs. Compare the capacity you would have reserved with the time each actually consumed. If estimates are consistently wrong, refine the packages before allowing automatic booking.
Mixslot is a planned tool for this workflow, with a price being tested at $19 per engineer per month. It is not accepting live bookings yet. Explore Mixslot and register your interest. No payment is collected through the inquiry form.
