Missed a Flower Sowing? Update the Plan Without Losing the Original

By Stemnext · · 2 min read

A succession plan describes what you intend to grow. The field records what actually happens. When a sowing is late or a tray has fewer usable plants, keeping both records helps you understand the change instead of quietly overwriting it.

This is a planning exercise using your own crop information. It does not determine whether a later sowing suits your variety, climate, or remaining season.

Keep planned and actual columns

Preserve the original sowing date and plant count. Add the actual date and usable plants. Keep expected maturity timing and stem estimates beside those records, with a note explaining each assumption.

A smaller plant count can reduce the projection even if timing stays the same. A changed date can shift projected coverage without reducing the count. Recording both makes the distinction visible.

Check weekly coverage

Look at the weeks that succession was expected to supply. Compare the revised estimate with weekly targets and the other crops already in your plan.

Do not assume a sowing delayed by seven days will produce a harvest delayed by exactly seven days. Conditions and crop behavior can change that relationship. Use observations and trusted growing references when revising timing.

Compare options before changing commitments

You might revise the sowing plan, change the intended bouquet mix, or reduce a future sales target. Record each as a scenario before deciding. A projection can show a potential shortfall; it cannot create stems that are not there.

Save your decision and review it against the eventual harvest. Those notes can make next season’s estimates more useful than an untouched generic calendar.

Stemnext is a planned tool for this planned-versus-actual workflow. It would use grower-supplied timings and yield estimates, with no guaranteed harvest predictions. Tell us how you replan a missed sowing. We are testing $49/year per farm. No payment is collected through the inquiry form.
