Build an Engraving Correction Batch From a Production Snapshot

By PlateDelta · · 2 min read

A customer’s newest file tells you what they want now. It does not tell you which plates are already on the bench. A useful correction list needs both the revised wording and the actual production state.

Preserve the production snapshot

When preparing a batch, retain its roster version, stable plate IDs and the fields sent to production. Mark completed plates explicitly. A sent file is not proof that every plate was produced; interrupted runs and rejected blanks should remain visible.

Classify the effect

For a changed row on an unmade plate, replace the planned wording after review. For a changed row on a completed plate, put it on a rework review list. For a removed completed plate, record the cancellation without putting it into a new production export. An added award needs a new ID.

Suppose A-014 changes from Jon to John, A-015 is unchanged and A-016 is added. If only A-014 has already been made, the review list contains one potential replacement and one new plate. Confirm those decisions before exporting.

Keep design and comparison separate

LightBurn’s variable text already substitutes CSV data into projects. Etch Express offers batch design and export. Those tools remain substantial alternatives. Check their current workflow before adding another step.

The planned PlateDelta offer is a reviewed change manifest and selected-row CSV export. It would not approve wording or control a laser. A spreadsheet may already be sufficient for small batches.
